Sailor wins compensation for car towed by Port Orchard garage while he was at sea

Bethel Garage, 6750 Bethel Rd. SE, will pay the sailor the net auction price for the car, plus $2,000 in compensation for the year he was without a car, Ferguson’s office said. Federal and state laws require tow operators to obtain a court order before selling an active-duty service member’s vehicle at auction, with additional protections if the service member is deployed. Submariner Vincent Rowell was on active duty on the USS Connecticut somewhere in the Pacific in December 2018 when a friend who had borrowed his car was involved in an accident, and the car was towed, according to court records.
